Cookies

SkillTycoon is published by Jayso Foundation. We run no advertising, we do not sell data, and we do not share it with data brokers. This page lists every cookie and browser-storage key the site uses.

Strictly necessary — always set

These make the site work. Without them you could not stay signed in, and we would ask about cookies on every page.

Strictly necessary storage
NameWhat it does
__sessionKeeps you signed in. Set only after you sign in; removed when you sign out.
st_consent_analytics (local storage)Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we stop asking.
st_internal (local storage)Marks this browser as belonging to the SkillTycoon team, so our own visits can be separated from real learners' when we look at the numbers. It is written only if you deliberately load a URL ending ?st_internal=1, or if you sign in with a staff account. It holds no identifier, is never sent anywhere, and its only effect is to leave your activity OUT of our statistics. Loading a URL ending ?st_internal=0 removes the marking and stops it being re-applied.
st_anon_progress_v1 (local storage)Remembers which lesson you finished while trying a course without an account, so a reload does not lose your place. Written only when you complete or change a lesson — never just for visiting. Contains no identifier, is never sent anywhere, and is deleted from your browser once your progress is saved to your account.
st_free_course_v1Records which single course you chose to take in full for free without an account, so that course keeps opening for you. Set only when you tap “Take this course” — never just for visiting. It contains a random one-time reference for that course (no name, no email, no account) and is used only to keep your free course open and to stop the free offer being abused at scale. It is readable only by our server, not by scripts in your browser, and it lasts up to 180 days. Clearing your browser data removes it, and with it your free course.

Analytics — only if you accept

None of these are written unless you choose “Accept”. If you decline, or ignore the banner, they are never set. You can change your mind by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which resets the question.

Analytics storage
NameWhat it does
_ga, _ga_*Google Analytics. Tells us how people arrive at the site — search, a link, direct — and which pages they land on.
ph_* (PostHog)Product analytics. Tells us which lessons people finish and where they stop, so we can fix the courses that lose people.
st_attribution_v1 (local storage)Remembers which link first brought you to SkillTycoon — for example that you came from a particular post on LinkedIn — so we can tell which of our posts are worth writing. It stores only the campaign labels that were in the web address you arrived on, the website you came from, and the page you landed on. It never stores your name, email, account, IP address or anything else about you, and anything in those labels that does not look like a plain campaign label is discarded rather than stored. It is written only if you accept analytics, is deleted if you decline or change your mind, and expires after 90 days.

Courses on other domains

Some organisations publish SkillTycoon courses on their own web address. On those domains we run no analytics at all — no Google Analytics, no PostHog, no banner. Only the sign-in cookie and the storage needed to record your progress are used.
